AN INTRODUCTION TO PNEUMATOLOGY WRITTEN BY REV FR UTAZI PRINCE BENIGNUS ZEREUWA Updated May 26 2022 Ascension Thursday INTRODUCTION: WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT Pneumatology: The Holy Spirit The term pneumatology comes from two Greek words, namely, pneuma meaning “wind,” “breath,” or “spirit” (used of the Holy Spirit) and logos meaning “word,” “matter,” or “thing.” As it is used in Christian systematic theology, “pneumatology” refers to the study of the biblical doctrine of the Holy Spirit. Generally this includes such topics as the personality of the Spirit, the deity of the Spirit, and the work of the Spirit throughout Scripture. The Holy Spirit cannot be defined. I have tried to see the possibility of defining the Holy Spirit, but it is not working out. Therefore, I can only say that one can only describe the Holy Spirit.
